Jane Zempel - Director of Women's Ministries

Dear Friends,

Though I would much prefer to do this individually over a cup of coffee (or tea) with each of you, this letter will have to suffice for now.  Please allow me to introduce myself and my reason for wanting to do so.

My name is Jane Zempel.  I have been married to my husband, Tom, for 47 years---42 as a Pastor/Professor’s wife.  We have three adult children and are blessed to be grandpa and grandma to 6 (awesome!) grandchildren.  The Lord brought us to Colonial 3 ½ years ago when Tom was called to serve on the pastoral staff and as part of the Shepherd’s seminary faculty.  What a joy and delight it has been to be part of these exciting ministries!  Now in addition to wife, mom and grandma, I’ve agreed to add another role.

I received a request to prayerfully consider serving as the Director of Women’s Ministries at Colonial.  I was initially hesitant, while also humbled and honored by the invitation.  As I prayed about it and discussed it with my husband over the next few days, I began to see this as an awesome privilege to serve the Lord and the ladies in our church family at Colonial.  I readily embrace the fact that I am “an older woman” and endeavor to take Titus 2 very seriously.  One of the factors that helped me in my decision is the knowledge that I will be supported and counseled by a wonderful group of women who also share this passion.  I, along with the women on the Leadership Team, will be planning carefully and also want to hear from you about ideas and suggestions for ways we can serve Christ by serving one another in meaningful ways.

I have accepted this as “God’s appointment” for this season in my journey.   I have a great appreciation for the investment of many women over the years of Colonial’s history and know that will only deepen as I learn more.   I also am excited as we look toward the future, as the Lord tarries, to see what He has in store.   One of the main reasons for this letter is to solicit your prayer support.  I am keenly aware of my need for the Lord’s enablement and firmly believe Him when He said, “Without Me, you can do nothing.”   Please know that I welcome your input.  My heart and ears are open to each of you.  And, if we can do that over a cup of coffee (or tea), that would be wonderful!  We will be sending you another letter in a few weeks about the fall schedule and some exciting opportunities in the Women’s Ministry.

Joyful in Christ,

Jane Zempel

Upcoming Women’s Events and

Help Hands is the Women's Ministry community outreach program.  In the month of July there are three different scheduled events.  These are wonderful opportunities to minister to those in need and to bring children along and teach them about sharing the love of Jesus with others.

Book Club is scheduled for its next meeting on July 24th.  We will be discussing For Time and Eternity by Allison Pittman.  Discussion will begin at 1 pm in FC201.

Creative Crafting will be meeting over two days August 1st and 2nd.  Bring an unfinished craft from home or come learn a new craft idea from one of our instructors.  Because the event is available over two days on a floating schedule, just come when you can and leave when you must!
